*****
Hurts are back, at last with their second album Exile, fresh off the back of new single Miracle.
I was skeptical about this album as rumours were rife that it was dark and moody and I assumed they would suffer from 'second album syndrome'.
Wrong!
The album is nothing short of wonderful. Opener Exile sets the scene followed by Miracle that, to me, is a masterpiece in musical production. Second single Blind follows closely and this is an album highlight full of the Hurts angst and drama the fans love and crave.
Other highlights are the dark and grimy Cupid, the poppy and über catchy Sandman, the beautiful Somebody To Die For and album closer Help which has a little help from Elton John on keys.
There is not a bad song on this album , it's fair to say there are no standout pop tunes such as Stay and Better Than Love as there was on the debut but this is an all round better and more polished album that is sure to be played by fans for a very long time to come!
Best album release of 2013 so far...
